Acacia baileyana - Cootamundra Wattle

This listing is for 25 seeds of this Australian native tree.

Acacia baileyana or Cootamundra wattle, is a shrub or tree in the genus Acacia. The scientific name of the species honours the botanist Frederick Manson Bailey. It is indigenous to a small area of southern New South Wales in Australia, but it has been widely planted in other Australian states and territories. In many areas of Victoria, it has become naturalised.

The small flowers are arranged in spherical to cylindrical inflorescences, with only the stamens prominent. The flowers are bright golden yellow and sweetly scented and very attractive to bees. The fine foliage of the original Cootamundra wattle is grey-green, almost silvery. It is a commercially important species in Europe, where it is used extensively in the cut flower industry and also as a food plant for bees (Acacia honey is derived from bees that feed on this and a few other select species).

This plant is adaptable and easy to grow. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
It can be grown in many garden settings and is hardy in Zones 7 - 11, making it suitable for many temperate gardens. When flowering it is truly spectacular looking like it is dripping with golden yellow 'pom-pom' like sweetly scented flowers
