Amorphophallus bulbifer - Voodoo Lily

This listing is for 10 bulbils of this unusual, almost hardy tuber from Myanmar and India

This genus is more famous for its giant member, the Titan Arum, but is also includes some smaller and more manageable species and this is one such smaller species. The plant produces a large arum type flower up to 40 cm across and 40 cm or more high, which has a pink spathe and off-white spadix. After flowering it produces a large solitary leaf stalk, which is mottled red and carries a dense cluster of leaflets in a crown. As the the leaflet dies back, it produces bulbils from the leaf axils which can be used for propagation of the plants (it is these that are on offer in this listing). The leaf stem adds a very exotic, jungle like, aspect to the plant and even in small plants it will produce a fair sized stem.

It will flower in around 4 years from the bulbil stage and the corms will get bigger each year producing larger plants, the more they are fed and watered, the bigger the subsequent corm will be. Eventually the corm may 'shatter' and the resulting parts will grow into new plants, enabling the plant to spread given time.

What you will get is 10 bulbils (miniature tubers) of this plant. These are not seeds, but bulbils from the leaf axils of a mature plant. Experience has shown us that they range in size from that of pea to the size of a large grape. You will get a mixture of all sizes so this will include larger and smaller bulbils - we do this to ensure we are fair to all customers. They do not need to be 'germinated', they can just be planted into good soil/potting mix and they will start to grow away. From these 10 bulbils, you will get 10 plants. See the 2nd picture on the listing for an idea of what sizes you are getting. Single corms of this species normally retail for 4 - 5 GBP, this way you pay much less than this for TEN corms.

It is easy to grow and cultivate. Hardy down to Zone 7. It will need a free draining site and a heavy mulch if overwintered in the ground. It may be better in all but the mildest areas to lift the tuber over the winter and replant every spring as it comes into growth. Easy to grow following the instructions located at this link.
