Asclepias tuberosa - Butterfly Weed
This listing is for 30 seeds.Asclepias tuberosa is a species of milkweed native to eastern North America. It is a perennial plant growing to 0.3-1 metres tall, with clustered orange or yellow flowers from early summer to early autumn. This plant prefers dry, sand or gravel soil, but is tolerant of many soil types providing its requirement for full sun is met.
It is commonly known as Butterfly Weed because of the butterflies that are attracted to the plant by its color and its copious production of nectar. It is also the larval food plant of the Queen and Monarch butterflies.
Relatively quick and easy from seed, this plant will grace any garden, especially where the emphasis is on attracting wildlife as the flowers are very attractive to many types of insects, especially butterflies, producing copious amounts of nectar. Ideal for any damp/moist soil, it is superbly adapted to thrive in such conditions and will spread by means of its underground rhizomes.
An unusual and beautiful addition to any garden.
