Astragalus canadensis - Canadian Milk Vetch

This listing is for 250 seeds of this US wildflower.

This member of the pea or vetch family comes from North America and is a hardy perennial found over a wide range of habitats. It grows to 1.2 metres tall and flowers in summer. The flowers are greenish/yellow and carried in large numbers on the graceful flower spikes. The flowers are followed by pods containing up to 15 seeds. The flowers make a very useful and unusual addition to cut flower arrangements, the contrasting green colour working wiht most other flowers. As cut flowers they have a long life. Cutting the flowers low down encourages branching growth and more flowers later in the season.

Hardy in Zones 3 to 9, it is easy to grow from seed and will quickly establish itself. The seeds are easy to grow, requiring little more than a hot water soak and then sowing where they are to flower. Some report more even germination if the seed is soaked and then placed in the fridge for 10 days prior to sowing. Which ever method is used, the should always be sown in the final flowering location as they react badly transplanting. Full instructions for growing all US wildflowers can be found at this link.
