Blue Sceptre - Aristea capitata - Fresh Seeds

DESCRIPTION

Aristea capitata - Blue Sceptre

You are bidding for a packet of 5 seeds.

This is a rhizomatous plant from the Cape area of South Africa. It is an evergreen, with sword like leaves arising from the underground rhizome. It will eventually form thick clumps. It is also known as Aristea major, indeed until earlier this year this was the accepted name for it, but it has (like so many other species) been renamed in light of new evidence.

A member of the iris family, it is not overly hardy, so would need some form of protection in areas subject to regular frosts. Tall growing, perhaps as tall as 1.5 - 2 metres when in flower, this makes a graceful addition to any garden (with a mild climate) or collection of bulbs that can be container grown. It has blue flowers on a very tall flowering stem as do most of the species of Aristea. This gives rise to it's common name

Quick and easy from seed it may flower in it's 3rd year. Rapidly spreading it will quickly cover a large area and the rhizomes can be divided and used for propagation. As an alternative it may be container grown in less favourable areas

These instructions may change over the course of time (as I find out more about the plants and seeds) but the details that you will be provided with, at purchase, represent the latest version. If you have any questions concerning the culture requirements of this or any other item I am selling please contact me:  I will be happy to provide extra details you require.

Bidding on more than 1 item?

I will always combine shipping wherever this is possible and all auctions finishing within a SEVEN day period will qualify.  If I have not sent an invoice, please e-mail me for a combined invoice when you have finished bidding/buying, doing this will almost certainly save you money.

Due to the varying weights of the seeds it is not possible to apply a standard discount without overcharging for the majority of cases.  Additionally I cannot apply a postal discount unless PayPal payments are combined.
