Growing as a small tree or multistemmed shrub, it is a common featurein its native range. It gets up to 4 metres tall and has a similarspread. The leaves have a very rough surface, which leads the commonname given. Flowers white, cream or pale yellow in dense terminal heads; petalsdistinctly reflexed; calyces and stalks covered in yellowish hairs.The flowers are fragrant. Fruit fleshy, ovoid, orange-yellow whenripe, cupped in the persistent remains of the calyx - giving rise tothe name Saucer Berry when referring to this genus. NOT OVERLY HARDY, IT MAY BE GROWN OUTSIDE IN ZONE 9B AND UP,ELSEWHERE USE AS A CONTAINER SHRUB, WHICH CAN BE BROUGHT IN DURING THECOLDEST WEATHER. IT CAN ALSO BE USED IN CONSERVATORIES OR GREENHOUSESAND WOULD ALSO SERVE AS AN UNUSUAL HOUSEPLANT.
