Dasylirion durangense - Desert Spoon

This listing is for 10 seeds of this relative of the Agave.

This is considered a variety of the common Sotol (Dasylirion wheeleri) but with enough differences to make it a separate variety. It grows further south in Mexico at altitudes up to 2000 feet. It is not as hardy as Dasylirion wheeleri, but is more tolerant of neglect, especially drought. It has a rosette of stiff leaves up to 1 metre in length and it flowers in Spring/Summer with a flowering spike up to 3 metres in length. The leaves are used to weave baskets and similar items in much the same way as wicker. It makes a wonderful pot plant and can be grown outside if not subjected to any lengthy spells of freezing weather (as long as it is dry at the roots). It is slow growing and prefers a bright location. Easy to germinate following the instructions located at this link.
