Ficus benjamina - Weeping Fig

This listing is for 25 seeds.

This Fig is perhaps the most well known of the ornamental species along with the rubber plant (F elastica). It originates from South East Asia and Australasia, where it can grow up to 30 metres tall.  It is very tolerant of poor growing conditions (with a couple of exceptions) and can tolerate low levels of light.  The common name is based around the shape of the leaves, which are teardrop shaped and either refers to the way the branches droop under the weight of the leaves or to the fact that the plant reacts to changing conditions by shedding large numbers of leaves - like teardrops.

It can be grown as a houseplant, a conservatory plant, an office plant or even as an indoor bonsai.  Indeed it is one of the best plants for indoor bonsai. The only real rules are:

1. Don't change the incident of light (don't turn the plant once it is settled) - it will drop its leaves.
2. Don't keep it in a draughty location - it will drop its leaves.

Other than that it can be grown in poor light, polluted air and low humidity - all things that many tropicals do not like.  It may flower and fruit indoors, but these will be decorative only (the fruit not the flowers which are miniscule) as there is no pollinator for the flowers.
