Packet of 5 seeds.

This is a partly hardy bulbous plant from South Africa. Flowering in late winter to early summer, it is best grown in pots or pans, so that the amount of water can be moderated in what can be a very wet season in the Northern Hemisphere. One of the smaller members of the genus, it seldom reaches more than 40 cm tall. It has several sword shaped leaves and pink/scarlet flowers borne on a spike, that open in succession over a period of a few weeks during the late winter/early spring.

A member of the crocus family, it is hardy down to around - 5 C, so would need some form of protection in areas subject to temperatures lower than this.

Quick and easy from seed it may flower in it's 3rd year. Rapidly dividing it will quickly cover a large area and the offset corms can be used for propagation.
