Packet of 5 seeds.

This is a partly hardy bulbous plant from South Africa. Flowering in late winter to mid-spring, it is best grown in pots or pans, so that the amount of water can be moderated in what can be a very wet season in the Northern Hemisphere. It would also make a perfect specimen for a well drained alpine bed, where some overhead protection can also be provided. Amongst the shortest in the group, this averages around 25 cm tall. It has the characteristic two rows of flowers carried on an upright spike.

A member of the crocus family, it is hardy down to around - 5 C, so would need some form of protection in areas subject to temperatures lower than this.

Quick and easy from seed it may flower in it's 3rd year. Rapidly dividing it will quickly cover a large area and the offset corms can be used for propagation.
