    Description

Nolina microcarpa - Bear Grass

This listing is for a pack of 10 seeds.

A native of Northern Mexico and the South-western USA, where it grows up to 2 metres wide in a rosette, with individual leaves being around 100 - 130 cm long and very narrow.  It has an underground woody caudex, which helps it survive droughts and bush fires.  The flowering stem is produced in late Spring/early Summer and is up to 1.8 metres tall and has white flowers followed by papery fruit containing a single small seed.

Easy to grow from seed, it requires a wide pot to accommodate the root stock.  It is quite hardy, but needs to be absolutely dry at the roots to survive any prolonged frost, so in areas prone to cold and wet, it is best grown in a pot and brought inside.
