Ratibida columnifera - Long Headed Coneflower THIS IS A LISTING FOR A PACK OF 250 SEEDS. Ratibida columnifera,commonly known as Long Headed Coneflower, is a species of floweringplant in the daisy family, Asteraceae, that is native to much of NorthAmerica. It inhabits prairies, plains, roadsides, and disturbed areasfrom southern Canada through most of the United States to northernMexico. The plant grows up to 120cm tall and is perennial with ataproot and short, persistent stem base with several stems branchingfrom the base, with flat, stiff, short hairs. The leaves are arrangedalternately and are lance-shaped, deeply pinnately cut into 5-9segments, the segments linear or lance-shaped, toothless or nearly so,with flat, short, stiff hairs. The flowerS ARE yellow with 3-7 rays,which are 15-45 mm long, relatively very broad, spreading or bentdown, around a dark, column-shaped disk, mostly 15-40 mm long andabout 1/4-1/2 as wide. Several flower heads are carried on longstalks. There are several sub-species and forms of this plant, thislisting is for the yellow flowered type speciesTolerant of a wide range of growing conditions, this species issuitable for Zones 3 - 9. Ideally suited for a wildlife or wildflowergarden, this plant is extremely attractive to both butterflies andbirds.
