RATIBIDA COLUMNIFERA VAR PUCHERRIMA - MEXICAN HAT THIS IS A LISTING FOR A PACK OF 250 SEEDS. Ratibida columnifera vpulcherrima, commonly known as Mexican Hat, is a species of floweringplant in the daisy family, Asteraceae, that is native to much of NorthAmerica. It inhabits prairies, plains, roadsides, and disturbed areasfrom southern Canada through most of the United States to northernMexico. The plant grows up to 120cm tall and is perennial with ataproot and short, persistent stem base with several stems branchingfrom the base, with flat, stiff, short hairs. The leaves are arrangedalternately and are lance-shaped, deeply pinnately cut into 5-9segments, the segments linear or lance-shaped, toothless or nearly so,with flat, short, stiff hairs. The flowers are yellow, with a redsplash, with 3-7 rays, which are 15-45 mm long, relatively very broad,spreading or bent down, around a dark, column-shaped disk, mostly15-40 mm long and about 1/4-1/2 as wide. Several flower heads arecarried on long stalks. There are several sub-species and forms ofthis plant, this listing is for the yellow/red flowered variety.Tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions, this species issuitable for Zones 3 - 9. Ideally suited for a wildlife or wildflowergarden, this plant is extremely attractive to both butterflies andbirds.
