Sapindus saponaria - Soapberry Tree

This listing is for 10 seeds of Sapindus saponaria

This is a hardy tree from North America, ranging from Louisiana north to Kansas and Missouri.  Well known as a subsitute for soap, the berries contain several saponins (soap like compounds) and a handful of berries can be used in place of soap or washing powder.  The tree grows to around 12 metres tall with a similar spread and carries small flowers in the early summer followed by large clusters of fruit that slowly ripen being fully ripe by October, but remaining on the the till the following spring.

Quite widespread in its native areas, the tree is very ornamnetal and grows at a moderate rate. It is deciduous and is hardy in zones 6 through to 11
