Cotyledon mixture - Pig's Ear & Bear's Toes

This listing is for 25 seeds of all 10 of the recognised species of this genus.

Most Cotyledons dont have a common name, at least not an English one, the name Pig's Ear refers to Cotyledon orbiculata and Bear's Toes to Cotyledon tomentosa (both in the mix). Cotyledon is a member of the Crassula family and have a growth typified by paired opposite leaves, each pair being offset by 90 degrees from the previous pair. The flowers are generally nodding bells in clusters of 3 to 15 flowers, in reds, oranges and yellows and are quite striking. The 10 species are quite variable and Cotyledon orbiculata has at least five recognised forms, all of which occur naturally and will breed true to type.

The plants are easy from seed, although the seed itself like most of the crassulas is tiny, and you may have a flowering sized plant in 2 years or so. When not in flower, the form and colour of the leaves are a significant feature of all of the species and they are worthy of a place in any collection for this fact alone. They will grow happily in a small pot on a windowsill, the better colours form when exposed to the brightest light.
