Tradescantia bracteata - Prairie Spiderwort THIS IS A LISTING FOR A PACK OF 50 SEEDS. Prairie spiderwort is acompact, clump-forming herbaceous perennial which typically grows 30cm tall. Rose/purple, three-petaled flowers with contrasting yellowstamens open up, a few at a time, each for only one day, from terminalclusters containing numerous flower buds. Flowers bloom in successionfrom late May into early July. Arching, iris-like, dark green leavesup to 30cm long and 2cm wide are folded lengthwise forming a groove.Native to the US mid-west, it is found in sunny locations on prairies,meadows, fields, roadsides and railroad right-of-ways. When the stemsof spiderworts are cut, a viscous stem secretion is released whichbecomes threadlike and silky upon hardening (like a spider's web),hence the common name.Hardy in Zones 4 - 9, this is tolerant of a wide range of soilconditions except where it is not well drained.
