Wodyetia bifurcata - Foxtail Palm THIS LISTING IS FOR A PACK OF 5 LARGE AND VERY HEAVY SEEDS OFWODYETIA BIFURCATA. Wodyetia is a monotypic genus (one containing onlyone species) and is found only in a small area in Australia. It isnamed for the Aboriginal man who first brought its existence to lightas late as 1978 (it was unknown to science before this). Its commonname relates to the shape and style of the fronds which resemble a foxtail. Before it became widely planted in the tropics as an ornamental,it was listed as endangered. Fortunately now, with its adaptability toa wide range of areas, it is now quite common, although it remainsrare in its habitat. It grows to 10 metres tall or more, with large gracefully archingfronds. When mature it produces inflorescences of white flowersfollowed by large oval fruit, green at first, ripening to orangecontaining a single large seed, weighing in excess of 20 grams each. The plant is suitable as a houseplant and will stay in check forseveral years if pot grown. Ultimately it will outgrow the indoorlocation, but this can take several years and it is so easily grownfrom seed, that a replacement can easily be obtained. It is tolerantof a wide range of conditions making it suitable for growing eitherindoors or outdoors (in the tropics). It is not at all cold hardy, soif pot grown outside, it should be brought in before the first signsof frost.Full instructions can be found by visiting my 'About Me' page andclicking on my store link there.
