A group of unusual succulent plants that I am sometimes able to source seeds for at a reasonable price.  They include both giant and dwarf low growing species and come from Southern Africa and Madagascar where they earned the common, if erroneous, name of Madagascan Palms. Characterised by thorns growing at the base of the leaves (which are often deciduous or non-persistent), they are a member of the Dogbane family and have sweet smelling flowers.
